Ok...I know...I promised to be back in full force..and that didn't happen :-( BUT...today is a new day, new year...so...Let's try it again!!!! Just by coincidence, my last blog was for "Divergence" an awesome book I loved last year....and now..here is your countdown start to when the next book comes out.... "Insurgent" in....100 days!!!!

I LOVED this book!!! If you liked Hunger Games...you will enjoy this one just as much! I enjoy books with a strong female character and Beatrice "Tris" is a determined girl trying to do the right thing. The 'dystopian' theme is really popular right now I am enjoying reading all the different books out there with this theme. It allows you to envision another world and wonder whether you could survive in such a world! Strong characters, great story and ending that leaves you wanting more!!! Luckily, the next book will be coming out next year called "Insurgent."

Sorry for the delay in getting the review done, but have you ever had a book that you were afraid to read or finish reading because you knew that you would enjoy it so much!?? So now, after finishing it, you have to sit and hope the author will write another book to continue on the series!?!! We'll, that is how I feel about this book, "It's A Waverly Life" by Maria Murnane.

If you missed the synopsis the other day...here it is again:

This is the 2nd book about Waverly and her adventures of going through life's ups and downs. If you didn't read the 1st book "Perfect on Paper," you should still be able to read this one with no problem, but if I were you I would get it and read it too!! (you can see my review of it HERE).

I really enjoyed the flow of the story throughout the book. Every chapter has you wondering will she or won't she do this, or that. Would "I" do what she did?? I felt like the author knew something about MY life that she put into the story! I especially liked the 'special' neighbor that is helpful to her, without her really realizing it. The only slow part of the book for me was toward the end when Waverly got everyone together at her house to make her big announcement. It just seemed a bit too long of a scene for what was said for me. If you want to sit back with your favorite drink and read a cozy story that makes you laugh and cry, this is the book for you!

The author, Maria Murnane, has created a character that could easily be any one of us single girls out there longing to find THE ONE person we want to share our lives with forever, the ONE job that will make us happy, and the friends and family that make ones life worth living!!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars!!!

Release of 2nd book in "The Legend of the Great Horse" Series

Hi everyone!! I wanted to let everyone know that the 2nd book in "The Legend of the Great Horse" series is out and available to get!!! "The Golden Spark" by John Royce is the second of three books that tells a great story about a girl and a horse as they time travel through historic time periods looking for the ONE great horse!!! A fictional story with historic background...I love it!!!

This is a unique story that grabbed my attention after I read the first book of the series "Eclipsed by Shadow:"

I did a review of "Eclipsed by Shadow" in July 2008. Go take a peak at it. You will see how much I really enjoyed it!!

I plan a review of "The Golden Spark" in the coming week and will be having a book giveaway to go along with it!!!! So make sure and check back for it!!!!

I really enjoy reviewing books of new authors that are trying to get the word out about their books!! John Royce is a great guy and author that I've gotten to correspond with the last couple of years through email and Facebook!! Well, here are a few resolutions (goals for the year) I have set for myself and will try my best to follow through with them!!

1. Do better in getting book reviews out in a timely matter!!!

2. Strive for a healthy life by exercising more and hopefully the pounds will fall on their own!!

3. Possibly start a movie review blog!!

4. Create ideas that may work to write a book about...

Those are just a few..will probably add more as the weeks go on....

Review:

This was an engrossing book of a women's life that will bring you to tears of laughter, joy and sadness. The author, Alice Cohen, writes her memoir in a theatrical and almost over the top manner that grabs you from the beginning and keeps a hold of you through her ride of experiences with the healthcare system. Yes, it's a story about how she finds out she is pregnant and not sure if she wants to keep it, but there are so many more other things going on in her life that you are sure to find something you can relate too. Adoption, abortions, age differences, disability, career choices, divorce; these are just a few of the life experience we all may go through. It really tugged at my heart the few times I thought that Michael was going to leave Alice because of her decision, but it was her tough love that helped her get through some of the toughest moments and decisions.

I commend Ms. Cohen for sharing her experience and the choices she made for herself and her family. Everyone might not agree with some of her opinions or choices, but we all have to make our own decisions that we believe are right at the time they occur.

I would highly recommend this book be added to everyone's TBR list!! Take the time to read a well written memoir that will stay with you days after finishing it!!

Have you seen Amazon's list of the Best Books of 2010 ? If you haven't, go to the list and take a look at it. I am just curious to see how many of you have read any of the top 10 books on each of the lists. Leave me a comment with which one's you have read!

On the Editors List..of the top ten..I sorry to say I hadn't read ANY of them. I do have "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest" on my list to read.

On the Customer List ..of the top ten.. I've only read "Mockingjay".

On the Editors Top 10 Mystery/Thriller list...I've read "The Passage" (I need to get that review up!!).

First thing this tells me?? I am NOT reading enough...hahahah!!! But on the other hand it amazes me to see the variety of books on the lists. There sure is something for everyone!!

Book Review - "Mockingjay" by Suzanne Collins

Review:

The eagerly anticipated #3 book in the Hunger Games series, Mockingjay, was good...just not as good as the first two books. Don't worry, I won't be giving away any spoilers for this much read and loved series. I will say that the story is much more war and political then the first two books, which focused more on the 'games.'

The author kept the 3 main characters away from each other a lot in this book it seemed to me, which I understood, but it made the story go in to lulls sometimes. I loved the contrast in character Katniss expressed in herself as she interacts with Peeta and Gale. She is so much harder in character with Gale, but much more softer with Peeta. I will tell you that the 'who does she choose' gets answered by the end of the book!!

I have mixed feelings ...as much as I love the series, the ending wasn't quite what I was hoping (wanting?)!!! I don't want you to think I didn't like the book because I did...I guess I was wanting something more.

I look forward to seeing how the movie version of "Hunger Games" is made. The subject matter of the games is going to be hard to convey on screen with all the 'killings.' We shall see!!

Review:

"Perfection" is an interesting look into one woman's emotional journey and how she deals with the highs and lows she goes through to find herself once again. The beginning of the book was emotional for me when the author talks about how her husband dies and how she deals with it. This first third of the book move along well and was well written, but the rest of the book seemed very rushed. It seemed as though Ms. Metz wanted to make sure to get ALL the details of the affairs written in to the book, before she got to how she coped with it all. It just lost my interest enough to skim over most of the rest of the book. I'm sure it was an emotional experience finding out about all those women, but for me...it was too much extra information. The last third of the book had me cheering her for going forward in life, but some of her actions I question (in my opinion). Everyone leads their own life, whether we the reader agree, we can only hope that she continues to love herself and her family.

I am glad Ms. Metz found the courage and love within herself to write the book and find solace in her life to go on!! Those of us who are widows/widowers can attest to the fact that life throws you a curve ball when you lose a spouse (or anyone close to you).

Since everyone agrees and disagrees about liking a book, I would still suggest you give the book a chance and read it. Some of the reviews I have seen love it..other not. Give it a try and see what you think!!!

I love cozy mysteries!!! I had been wanting to read this book and the rest of this series for a while, so I finally decided to make them my 'purse book'!! What is that? Well, I keep the book only in my purse and read it only when I am at work on break or somewhere waiting and needing to pass the time.

Murder is Binding is the first book of the series called "A Booktown Mystery" by Lorna Barrett. It has all the things I love in it. A strong single woman, a bookstore, a small town and a murder to solve! I could live in this book and be very happy (except I would change Tricia's cat to a dog if I lived there). The author has written some great quirky characters that make you smile and laugh throughout the book. The mystery of who-dun-it is very well written and makes you wonder who it is up until the very end of the story. Sister rivalry, a sheriff that holds grudges and men who only think of business are only a few side stories that fill the many pages of this murder mystery.

I am already reading the next book in the series "Bookmarked for Death" and am enjoying it just as much!!

I highly recommend this new book by Loucinda McGary!! I've read both "Wild Sight" and "The Treasures of Venice" (see my reviews in this blog) and once again the author pulls you in to a story about 2 main characters that are drawn to one another by forces unknown to them. An Irish man, Kevin...an American woman, Amber..,both struggling with issues from their past, must work together to find Amber's brother before it's too late. The description of the landscape and town's of Ireland are beautifully written. I am ready to leave for Ireland NOW!!

With the mix of paranormal, mystery and romance, this book will be enjoyed by many readers. Ok, well..especially those of us that like those "Irish guys!!" Keep writing them Loucinda!!!

Book Review - Reasons by Tracy Fabre

She also falls in love with one of the Laughlin brothers, and that wasn't part of the plan at all.

Review:

This is an intriguing story about searching for one answer, but finding much more. I enjoyed the character of Delphi. The author, Tracy Fabre, wrote a strong woman character that speaks her mind and does what she needs to to find peace in her life. Surrounded by the beautiful Colorado ranch, the story intertwines numerous characters that affect each other as Delphi solves the mystery of not only her past, but that of other family members and town folk. Romance is in the air for Delphi during her stay, but is it the right choice? You will have to wait and see!

Once you start this book, you will not want to put it down until the last page is read. It's like looking in to the life of all the characters with no one knowing you are there. I love it when a book wraps you into the story like that!

This is a quirky, cozy mystery book that will tickle your fancy and leave you wanting more! You will get a little paranormal romance with the family matchmaking business, some suspense when Lucy gets involved with a missing person case and fun filled humor throughout the book. All the characters are lovable and you are truly wanting romance to blossom...for someone!! It looks like Valetine's Inc. will be going on for a while in future books!!

I would recommend "Truly, Madly" to anyone that wants looking for a fun, cozy mystery book!

Review:

"Hannah's List" is a fascinating story of one man's struggle to make the step forward of finding love again, while 3 women try and find their own life paths. Debbie Macomber writes an amazing story of personal loss and learning to go on with life around you. The main character, Michael, struggles to understand why his wife choose these 3 women for him to date and possibly marry. I enjoyed the differences between these 3 women and how they interacted differently with Michael. How do you know what you're type is after being with the same person for so long? As the story went along, I kept switching between the women who I thought he would end up with because he seemed to fit with all of them! The side characters were wonderful, especially Macy's neighbor, Harvey, who would be a real hoot to meet in a real life situation. I love people who just speak what is on their mind!

On a personal note, I can relate to a lot of what Michael felt and struggled with in his loss. My husband and I had conversations about the 'what if' situations while he was sick, but he didn't leave me a letter like Hannah did. Will you remarry or not? Do you want me to or not? Do I want to or not? It's a thought you really don't want to think about...at anytime. My answer keeps changing. Before he died..I said maybe..after he died...no way...and now.. 5 years after he passed?? I just take each day and see what happens.

The book is an easy read and hard to put down once you get started. It's a great story of the strength of love that can be had between two people and the hope that maybe it can happen again some day.....

Book Review - A Place for Delta by Melissa Walker

When his parents were kids, they too embarked on an excursion into the unknown. Their encounters with the wilderness beyond their backyard have molded the future for Joseph and Delta. A Place for Delta is about one family’s journey--a passage born in the Appalachian mountains and leading to the Arctic.

Review:

I really looked forward to reading "A Place for Delta", since it was based in Barrow, Alaska (my uncle lived there for a while). The writing is simple and clear , though repetitive it seemed in a few places in the storyline. This may have been due to the level the book is written for, which is the pre-teen age level (9-13yrs old). I enjoyed the wilderness protection awareness the author, Melissa Walker, surrounds the story with. From Joseph learning about animal protection to the land protection from oilmen, the story mesmerizes you in the rural Alaskan landscape and lifestyle. The author keeps your interest peaked by the adventure Joseph and Ada (the local Alaskan girl Joseph befriends) have in helping solve a mystery. By using secret note taking and 'tailing' a suspect, the two of them are an important assets to tracking down the bad guys!

Now, there were adults in the book too..I don't want to leave them out. I loved how the adult parents let their children explore and find things out for themselves, by being protective, but not overprotective. My feeling is that these days parents don't get their kids outside to explore more! and go with them!!

Overall, this was an enjoyable and fun read that I would really recommend for kids and adults alike! After reading the book, it makes me want to go Alaska more than I already did!!

Review:

Back to the Homeplace is an amazing journey of family values and individuals trying to find their place in life. Author William Leverne Smith brings together his love of genealogy and family storytelling in his writing of a story that could touch any one's life these days. The description of the Missouri Ozarks, which has numerous kinds of terrain, landscape and buildings, is amazingly accurate. It makes you want to go on a road trip to view the beautiful area!

The plot is well written with a will dividing a family who all want the farm for different reasons. The twist of the will requires them to live on the land for 2 years. Could you up and leave your life and start over with your family somewhere else? You will see in the story how this effects all the families involved as each day goes by and decisions have to be made. From the older generations to the younger kids, all must deal with new issues that arise from the new environment that surrounds them.

This book evolves around the year 1987. At the beginning of each chapter, there are little news clips of what was going on at the time. Many social issues were active at that time and some are covered in the story like the AIDS epidemic.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to read a great family oriented book that makes you think about the life you lead. The characters will make you think about people in your own family that may act or be like them (I sure found that out.) The writing is easy to read, but my only critique would be a more language use or slang of the area and a little less formal words used. This didn't distract me from the story, but living in the area myself, people speak a little more laid back. Take a trip in to the lives of the Bevins family and see what you may learn about those close to you.

Review:

This book drew me in from the moment I saw the cover. A woman alone on a prairie with just a bag to her name. Next, I read what the story was about..again..it got me! I love the late 1800's and a storyline that has a strong woman character that has to fight to find her place in life. Julia is an amazing character who draws you in to the struggle women endured to overcome, being mail order brides and baby makers for those living in the 'wild west'. Goyer and Fleiss write from the heart about a woman that wants only to find herself and someone SHE chooses to be her husband. You can see the love and care that Pastor Issac and Julia have for one another, but each must follow their own path and rid themselves of past issues to be able to see clearly the love they have for one another.

The story flowed easily with many characters in the town being involved in the subplots surrounding Julia's decision to stay or go back east. Death, murder, love twists and the search for orphans to find a good home are only a few of the topics the book includes in this journey of a book.

If you are wanting a book to read that warms your heart and has you cheering for love to conquer all...this is the story for you!

Review:

"Cowboy Trouble" is the debut novel for Joanne Kennedy and I am sure there will be many more to come!

This contemporary romance with a twist of suspense held my attention from the first page to the last. I love the idea of the city girl meeting the country boy, but refusing to believe that 'more' can become of their friendship. Libby finds an unsolved crime to fill her time as the new journalist in the small town, but she soon realizes maybe things are better off left alone. This is where the story really starts to take off as the author builds on the 'mystic' of all those small town secrets that try and stay hidden.

The chemistry between Libby and Luke sizzles even when we laugh at the jokes/secrets they keep from one another. One of them being Libby trying to make Luke believe she has a 'ferocious' dog, when it's really a small, harmless dog. The mystery of Luke's parents and friendship with Mike slowly unfolds as the killer gets more brazen in trying to hide the truth of what happened to the missing girl.

Cowboy Trouble will bring smiles, laughs and mystery as you read through the book. So, put the chickens out, bring in the dogs and cuddle up to the fire and enjoy a romantic and suspenseful story that will have you wanting to read the next Joanne Kennedy novel!!

This is book 5, the final book, of the Family Saga in Bear Lake, Idaho. I have loved this series from the start and hate to see it end, but I look forward to Linda's new series!

This story centers around John, middle child of Melinda and Gilbert Roberts, and Elena, the new town doctor. The chemistry between these two can be seen throughout the book by all the joking and kidding around they do with one another. Each are afraid to commit to the relationship until they each realize they can't go on without the other.

I enjoyed the time frame in history that the story is told, where women's rights were expanding all over the country. Elena's character was challenged by the men in town to prove herself as a 'real' doctor. Even Gilbert, the patriarch, had to overcome his opinion of being 'uncomfortable' in seeing a woman doctor. Other 'challenging' events occur in the story too (a thief that was stealing 'women's undergarments' and a lost child), where Elena must prove that women have some of the same abilities of men to conquer and accomplish goals. She uses her independence to win over John 'the life long bachelor' of the town. I like seeing the strong parental presence that Melinda and Gilbert have in John's life. They don't crowd or pressure him, but instead work with him to see both sides of any situation.

Linda Weaver Clarke is an amazing author who writes amazingly visual and descriptive books, without the story getting too wordy!! The story is full of daily chores, picnics, dances and dangerous events, which makes the book easy to read (and end way to fast for me!!)

"Elena, Woman of Courage" is an amazing journey of visual reading that will take you to the lands of Idaho and transport you in to the surroundings of the story. You feel you are living the life of the characters, who feel like your own family members, as you get to know each characters flaws and strengths. The love of a man and woman is only as strong as the bond and life they share together!

When an ancient ruin is discovered, it doesn’t take long for thieves to take it apart. Archaeological thievery is becoming more and more of a problem every year.

Review:

The fourth entry in the Family Saga in Bear Lake, Idaho is just as engaging and fun to read as the last 3 books were!! I love that David returns back to visit with the Roberts Family, after moving away to find himself. He soon realizes that you can find things you're missing in your life without even looking for them.

The author, Linda Weaver Clarke, has a way with showing in her writing the true love and laughter a man and a woman can have for one another. Whether married for years (Melinda and Gilbert) or just meeting one another (David and Sarah), the respect and longing for another person is deep and to the heart in these 2 story-lines. We are introduced us to a strong, educated woman, Sarah, who happens to have a disability. David is smitten with her, but unsure he wants to get involved with someone. The 'romantic friction' between David and Sarah is central to a story that will have you cheering for them to get together!

The fun part of "David and the Bear Lake Monster" is wondering if there is truly a 'monster' in the lake. It makes for an interesting adventure, with a surprising ending to the 'tale' of the monster. I love that the author based the monster on a local folklore of such a monster in that area in Idaho.

"David and the Bear Lake Monster" is heart-warming story of finding that right person to live the rest of your life with. It teaches us that people with disabilities are just like any other person who have dreams for their life. So, if you want to laugh, learn and live in the life of some wonderful characters....read this book and enjoy the journey!!!

She will have to make a decision that might hurt those closest to her, for her dreams to come true.

In the meantime, Jenny’s dad, Gilbert, is helping in the search of an old grizzly bear that is attacking the local sheep and scaring the town folk. He feels the need to be a part of the hunt, even thought his wife, Melinda, is against it. When he comes face to face with the legendary bear, Three Toes, Gilbert must balance the safety of the town with the concern of his family for his life.

I loved this book as much as I did the first two books in the series. I was drawn in to Jenny’s life an wondering what decisions she would make for her future. The amazing details of the family dynamics, descriptions of the beautiful scenery and the historical facts of the time all made the story believable. The ease of the writing made it feel as though I was eavesdropping in on their lives. I didn’t want the story to end (which it won’t since their will be two more books in the series)! The best part of the book was the relationship that grows between Jenny and Will. The author didn’t use the stereotypical ‘handsome’ male for the main character to fall for. This was refreshing to me, since all of us on this earth aren’t as perfect as most book characters are made out to be. This relationship reminds us that getting to know a person from the inside first and being friends, can grow in to something more.

“Jenny’s Dream” is a book for all ages that can wrap you up and make you feel all warm inside with the love and hope that dreams can come true if you believe hard enough.

Book Review: Edith and the Mysterious Stranger: The Family Saga In Bear Lake, Idaho

The story begins in 1904, 7 years after the first book ends, with Melinda in the ‘family way’ with her second child. She is having a difficult pregnancy and is told to stay off her feet as much as possible. Her cousin Edith, who is a nurse in Salt Lake City, decides to visit her parents in Idaho and help her cousin Melinda through her pregnancy.
Edith is very independent, opinionated and ‘spunky’, which she dislikes people calling her. She has been unlucky in love and has had a hard time finding the kind of man who fits the ‘list’ of qualities she has for dating. Two men find a way to slowly break through to her, but each is so different in how they lead their lives. Henry is a school administrator, educated and polite, but he believes a woman’s place is in the home. Joseph is a cowhand, self-educated, plays the guitar, but doesn’t even come close to matching Edith’s list. A third ‘mystery’ man enters the picture when Edith begins receiving romantic notes, which sweeps her off her feet. She must now make a decision whether to follow her ‘list’ or follow her heart.
In the meantime, Gilbert, Melinda’s husband, has a cattle drive planned that will take him away from her for days. He hires some new men to help, not aware that two of these men are outlaws and cattle rustlers. One of the men, David, is just starting out as an outlaw and feels he has no other direction for his life to go. He soon finds himself falling for the boss’s 16-year-old daughter and questioning what he is getting himself in to. He feels pulled to the life of an outlaw, but being befriended and cared for by Gilbert’s family, makes him start to think about a better life he could make for himself.
This is the second book in the Family Saga in Bear Lake, Idaho series. I really enjoyed the first book (Melinda & the Wild West) and was looking forward to reading this new book. The book is such a mix of genres (Wild West, outlaws, romance, independent women, Christian, mystery), that I would say any age of reader would enjoy this book. I can’t wait to read the third book, coming out this summer!
“Edith and the Mysterious Stranger” pulls you in to the lives of the people of Bear Lake, Idaho. Linda Weaver Clarke has created a story with strong characters, love of family, outlaws and mystery that will have you captivated from start to finish.

This is a story of Melinda, an independent and educated woman from Boston who lives comfortably, but feels there is more she can do with her life. She decides to take a chance and moves to the untamed west. She becomes the new teacher in Paris, Idaho, a rugged wilderness area that is filled with dangerous animals, outlaws and weather that can be extreme in all seasons. She struggles to adapt at first, but comes to love the area and people. She meets a mysterious rancher that she never imagined would some day be a part of her life.

I absolutely loved this book. Now, I may be biased that I adore late 1800’s and anything to do with Wild West areas, but this story just amazed me. Creating a story based upon an independent, educated and strong women character, brings to light the type of women that helped make this country what it is today. Melinda learns to keep her guard up when she needs to, but letting it down can bring happiness in to your life. The themes of family, love, communication and friendship can be found throughout the book.

If you want to read a book that makes you smile at the end, this would be one of those books.

Karen turns to her ex-husband, Jerry, for help and together they bravely confront the mysterious dust. But will their daring actions cost them their lives?

Review:

"Dust" is the first novel for writer Susan Berliner of Yorktown Heights, NY.

The story is simply written and has strong characters in Karen and Jerry. The creation of the 'dust' as the antagonist piqued my curiosity. The numerous 'accidents' that the 'dust' creates are inventive at first, but after the fifth one, it seemed a bit monotonous. The interactions between Karen and her ex-husband Jerry added some good humor to the story that I liked. For being a suspense type of book, I didn't feel any real climatic ending that scared or surprised me...it just kind of ended.

Overall, I think as a first novel the outline of the story was good. I just think a bit more intrigue/suspense was needed to really keep me interested in the story.

Review:

By the 'chance' meeting of an American girl and an Irish boy, they work together against the ticking clock of finding the "Jewels of the Madonna" to save someone's life...and maybe their own too!

Loucinda McGary, author of "The Wild Sight" that I reviewed previously, has done it once again in writing an emotional romance that thrives on the thrills of mystery and intrigue. She blends together some of my favorite themes of story writing and makes it come together to make me feel like I am physically there watching the story transpire!

Of course, my favorite is the Irish man character, Kiernan. Ms. McGary describes him in such heartfelt details, you can feel your heart pumping at this man's charisma. Also, I love how the author flips between two time periods in the story without it getting confusing: 15th century Venice with Serifino and Nino and modern Venice with Samantha and Kiernan. You're kept wondering until the end of the book whether these couples have an interlocking relationship through time!

The mysterious dark Venice streets and paranormal aspects of the story keep you turning the pages of this adventure. The descriptions of Venice, old and modern are so well used by the author that I would love the chance to see the city myself someday!!

Even though this is noted as a 'romance book,' I would not shy away from reading it if you're not in to romance. It has just the right balance of mystery, suspense, and paranormal, with a little romance thrown in between the characters (which is more like 'opposites attract' than 'sultry lust' romance).

I would 'highly' recommend this book to read, along with 'The Wild Sight.'

If you've ever wondered if you could meet and fall for someone you just met at the mall, airport or business meeting...take a few hours to read Marie Force's latest novel "Love at First Flight." I loved reading this story of two very different people meeting under unusual circumstances and overcoming obstacles.

The build-up of the characters Juliana and Michael is so well written and believable, that the story seemed to fly off the pages. The author is really good at mixing romance, suspense and humor to keep you involved throughout the whole book. You really don't know whether the two will stay together of not with the twists in the story!!

The book makes you think at the end about relationships and what truly is a 'normal' relationship? I guess that is what we all have to figure out!!!

I would definitely recommend this book!! Don't get the wrong impression of this book with the bare chest on the cover...it is a lot more than just a 'chick' book...there is much more to learn!!!

Dirkle, his little brother Quid Smat, along with Toonie Oobles, Fiddy Bublob, Lumleyline, and Bean Lumley!! I liked how each kid shows a special quality that makes them unique to the group. Short chapters and simple plot makes this an easy and fast read for a bedtime story for parents. I've always loved having a club as a kid and this would be a good entry in to helping a young kid maybe start one themselves. At the end of the book, there are forms to help start their own club! Imagination and teamwork come together to make an amazing story that kids will enjoy!!

Write in 50 words or less…what do you like best about your blog right now and where would you like your blog to be a year from now?

I really enjoy my blog, but I know there is so much more I could be doing, after looking at so many blogs this week!!

I do like that I have not stuck with one genre. I love changing from one to the other, when I get tired of one type of book. I think people like reading all kinds of books and reading my blog reflects that.

Where would I like my blog to be a year from now?? Definitely have more reviews!! I read a lot, but I seem to get backed up on reviews. I think I am going to try and not make my reviews as long or as wordy. Short and simple I think for now and then see how that goes. I saw on someone's blog today about asking a question at the end of you blog entry to get more comments. I think that is something I will work on to to get more traffic.

I've really enjoyed BBAW week and wish it was more than once a year!!! I love connecting with all the other book bloggers and readers this week. Nice to meet old and new bloggers!!!

Today's question is: What book did you discover only because you read about it on a book blog and then you realized you couldn’t live without it! And then you read it and you loved it so hard! Tell us about it and about the blogger (or bloggers!) that introduced the book to you!

While thinking about my answer to this question, I realized one of my favorite books (which came out in the last few years)that I recommend to everyone....I haven't even done a review on!! Review:

I never thought of myself as someone that liked chick-lit, but the books by Jill Mansell may have now turned me around! I first reviewed "An Offer You Can't Refuse" last May and absolutely loved it. Now comes this one and I enjoyed it even more!! Ms.Mansell's books are easy reading books, that pull you in to the lives of the characters and don't let go until you finish the story!

"Miranda's Big Mistake" is about a girl who does not have good luck on her side with her relationships with men. Miranda decides to get Greg back good this time because she is fed up with how men leave her heartbroken. While she decided how to get even, we get to know her quirky friends and their relationship issues. The book was like a train ride with good views from both sides of the windows. The author make me laugh, cry and want the 'revenge' Miranda wanted in getting back at Greg...and boy does she get him back!!! The secondary characters really helped bring the story along and made the ending even better with many story lines to rap up.

I would recommend this to anyone that might have a chick-lit phobia, because Jill Mansell's books will turn you in to a chick -lit reader!!

1. What are you currently reading? - Elena, Woman of Courage by Linda Weaver Clarke

2. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? - I use ONLY bookmarks!! One's that are flat and a tassel on the end usually.

3. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more that one at a time? - I use to only read one at a time because I was afraid I would get the characters mixed up between the books! Now, I do read more than one, but they have to be a different genres of books for me so the stories don't blur together on me!!

4. Do you prefer series books or stand alone books? - I would have to say the ones I enjoy the most are the series books. You invest your time in a character and want to see how their lives progress through time. This is especially fun when the books are based on historical events that happen through the story lines.

5. How do you organize your books? - When I am able to organize them, I tend to go alphabetically by authors last names. Right now though, I have so many books, most are just wherever I have space!!

This book really surprised me in how much I ended up loving this story. I am not a big "Regency" period reader, but I do enjoy Jane Austen and thought I would give it a try. The story is full of ghosts, mystery, time travel and history, which keeps you involved with the characters until the very end! I won't give away some of the twists, but the character of Eleanor was refreshing to read. She was educated and had a passion that woman wish and hope we have in how we lead our lives. Eleanor is put in to a situation where she has to figure out what she needs to do to fix the past for the ghost/real sisters, but fate seems to guide her in a direction she may not be ready to accept. "Jane Austen" comes in to the story when Eleanor has a situation where she doesn't know what to do. So, she thinks about the books Austen wrote to draw on an answer! A variety of secondary characters are filled by the 'handsome' gentleman, the snooty older ladies, and family members that will have you laughing and intrigued by their lives.

Have you ever thought about if you were able to go back to a time period that you enjoy and had a life there...would you return back to your own time? The writing style of the story gives such vivid details of the Regency time period and customs that you feel like your living there with Eleanor. Just when I thought I had the ending figured out, it turned out better! I would tell anyone that enjoys a good book to take a look at this one. The book is like a looking glass to a time period through the eyes of someone who treasures the history of our world's past.

I really had high hopes to reading "Boneman's Daughter," since I love psychological thrillers!! The excitement fizzled by the end of the book. The first half of the story moved really slow for me. It may have been the 'military' driven aspect of Ryan's kidnapping, but it didn't really keep my interest, but I forged on. When the police began to believe Ryan was the suspect of his daughters kidnapping, it got more interesting and you begin to wonder if he really is the Boneman. The ending was flat and anti-climatic with nothing more then good guy wins over bad buy. I was just glad to be done and able to go on to another book!!!

"An Offer You Can't Refuse" was a mixture of laugh-out-loud fun and pull out a hankie emotions that come together for a story that you will not want to stop until you get to the end.

Lola is an endearing character that you might not like at first, after she takes the bribe, but she slowly starts to grow on you. Ten years after the bribe, Lola is a bookstore manager and saves a woman from a mugging. Her life gets turned upside down when the woman is the one that gave her the bribe 10 yrs earlier!! She has to deal with her old emotions with Dougie and finding out a family secret.

The secondary characters of Gabe (neighbor) and Sally (Doug's sister and Gabe's roomate) have an 'opposites' attract relationship that is just hilarious to read. Of course, there is Dougie, the boyfriend that Lola dumped for the money. We really don't learn alot about him, but he is caught in the middle not knowing what truly happened and having a broken heart. When the truth comes out in the end, will they be able to start over again? Does love always endure? You will have to read it to find out!!!

I couldn't put this book down! I love that the author made Lola a manager of a bookstore. She gets to meet a number of 'interesting' customers that are oblivious to what they are looking for in the store, but expect her to know what they need! It's an easy to read book that will have you looking forward to another book written by Jill Mansell.

Author Mary Stanton has created an amazing new paranormal/cozy mystery series called “A Beaufort & Company Mystery.” “Defending Angels” is the first book of the series that mixes cozy, mystery and paranormal, which will pull you in to the story from the first chapter and won’t let you go until the last page is read.

Lawyer Brianna Winston-Beaufort comes to Savannah to take over her late uncle’s practice. After finding an office to rent at a low price in a cemetery, she slowly begins to realize her practice isn’t going to be normal. Brianna gets her first phone call from a prospective client, but soon realizes he died ‘before’ she got his call! Strange things begin to happen to her as she begins her investigation in to the ‘murder’ of her client. Brianna’s family history is different then what she thought it was. Organizations, angels, demons and a freaky painting all come in to play for Brianna as she works to solve the murder of the ‘dead’ client.

“Defending Angels” was a truly charming book that had me hooked from the beginning. Mary Stanton’s writing and unique characters are what kept my attention throughout this book. I was initially worried about the ‘southern’ locale which I was afraid I wouldn’t like, but it really gave the story the historical background that was the backbone to the book. With so many ‘cozy mystery’ being published, this one really seemed to have all the pieces of a book that can stand up among the best. I will be looking forward to the next book in the series!!

Review:

Filled with twist and turns, this debut novel by Kimberly Raiser is an "under the covers with a flashlight" story that will have you up all night to finish.

I really enjoyed this book!! The story and characters develop well in a relatively short book (174 pages.) The level of suspense changes through out the book to make you think you know where the story is headed, but then surprises you when it goes to a level of mystery you didn’t expect. It reminded me of the old TV shows “Outer Limits’ or “Twilight Zone” where you’re taken to a situation and allowed to observe what happens. Ms. Raiser mixes family, abduction, tunnels, paranormal and old family history to create a story that will make you continue to think about it even after you finish reading. The story isn’t overly scary or violent for a ‘thriller’ book, so kids of all ages would enjoy this book.

This "paranormal mystery thriller" will take hold of you from the first page and keeps you mesmerized until the very last page.

Review:
Sharon Lathan has created an amazing book about consuming love between 2 people that anyone would love to have with that speical someone. The majority of the story actually happens in their bedchambers. The banter between Darcy and Elizabeth behind closed doors is intimate and erotic, which amazed me knowing how 'stiff' they are when out in public (due of course to the 'proper' rules they must follow.) I enjoyed these parts, but talking about how wonderful each of them were was overdone and I found myself skimming through some passages to find more of the story. 'Two Shall Become One" kept my attention with the writings descriptive details of the surroundings that Elizabeth and Darcy would be in. I felt as though I was there with them, peeking in through a window. The ending seemed a bit rushed with a number of things happening, but overall the book was enjoyable.
I can't compare this to the Jane Austen book, unfortunetly, because I have not read it (hopefully, one of these days I will.) I have watched the movie version of "Pride and Prejudice" (which I loved) and I will say the book was a good version of a sequel to it. I wouldn't recommend this for everyone (because of the amount of intimacy might be too much for some), but I enjoyed it enough to say that it will bring smiles and laughs to your day as you read through the life of Darcy and Elizabeth.

Review:
Ann Shorey's debut novel will grip and tug at your emotions from beginnning to end. The story is true to the time period, where many women found themselves widows with children and having no where to go. Molly has a choice to marry someone she may not really love, but can give her security or follow her heart and forgive a doctor that brought her heartache. The struggle she has managing children, work and her own social life is reflective of how women today have to find that balance in their lives too. It just amazes me how much 'life' hasn't changed that much in all these years.
The writing is strong and easy to read, which makes reading the book go very fast! I was done way too soon! This is the first book in the series "At Home in Beldon Grove" that Ann Shorey will be writing. I can' wait to read the next one. If you are looking for a book that shows how determination and strong-will can pull you through almost anything, this is the book you show read!

The cowhands enjoy having a pretty lady around, but one in particular isn't sure if Crystal will survive living on a ranch. Luke has his doubts tested when tragedy hits the ranch and everyone must pull together to get the cattle to market, including Crystal. Greedy neighbors, mixed emotions, romance and figuring out where she belongs, all come to a climax in Crystal's decision to stay or head back to Georgia.

"No Place for a Lady" is a romantic and thrilling story about the will of a woman to move forward to a new life and new place to call home. The interplay of the characters Crystal and Luke seem so real and emotional that you find yourself wanting to be able to tell the characters how each feels about the other! The author Maggie Brendan's story is a roller coaster of a ride. Just when you think everything is going to work out, she brings in another twist. It's not over done with too many storylines, but it all comes together in what I thought was a surprising ending.

This book had me hooked from the beginning. What could be better? The story had many of my favorite themes. Colorado, the west, strong woman, wholesome values and of course romance!! For a first book, Maggie Brendan has a remarkable book that many readers will just love. So, go buy a copy...sit back..relax..and enjoy a book that will make you smile as you read!

Book Review: Asking for Murder

One of the best genres written these days are murder mysteries. Roberta Isleib, author of “Asking for Murder,” writes a gripping story of who-dun-it that makes you ponder all the twists and turns of the mystery. This book is the third book of the “An Advice Column Mystery” series that Isleib has written, but the first of hers for me to read. She writes in what I call simple talk. No big words, no complex thoughts or hard to understand plots that could make the story drag. I look forward to reading more of her books.

The series main character is Dr. Rebecca Butterman who finds her friend Annabelle, a fellow therapist, badly beaten and near death. Rebecca wants to help find answers to who wanted to cause her friend harm, but no one wants her nosing around. From strange patients to an estranged sister, the suspect list begins to grow. A clue to solving the crime may lie in the sand play therapy that Annabelle uses in her sessions with clients. It is up to Dr. Butterman to get in to the sand and see what suspects she can find to help her friend before it’s too late!

I love these women, amateur-sleuth type books that make you want to get in to the book and be a sleuth too! The plot is very simple and easy to follow, but it leaves you wondering ‘who’ the actual attacker is until the very end. Rebecca is a strong and intelligent woman who doesn’t quite have her life ‘all together.” I think that is why we love her so much, she is one of us. The few advice columns that are put in throughout the book, really don’t add to the story, but do give you a bit of insight into Rebecca’s state of mind as she responds to the questions.

If the first two books of the series are like this one, I can’t wait to read them. Having not read the other books, I had no problem jumping in to the storyline without knowing the characters background. So, if you’re looking for a cozy mystery to cuddle up with after a hard day, I would recommend “Asking for Murder.”

If you are in to Charles Dickens, 800 page books and love historical events....then this book is for YOU!! With Victorian London as a backdrop, you will be taken away to the mystery of finding "Drood" by Dickens and his 'friend' Collins.

I was hoping to really get in to this book, but the length, for me, was just too long. I read about 200 pages and it just didn't grab me. I skimmed through the rest of the book and read the ending, but it isn't the same as reading the whole book. I don't like making a 'review' of a book that I don't read all of it. I will say you should at least give it a try! Everyone has different opinions of what books they do and don't enjoy. I have read many great reviews for this book and am sure many of you out there will love it. "One opinion should not make your decision on whether a book is good or bad..that decision is yours!"

New Baby Gorilla!!

Ok...I know this has nothing to do with books or reviews (I need to start another blog for fun stuff!!)..but I LOVE gorillas!! I have to share this photo of a few days old baby gorilla in the Virunga National Park in the Congo. With all the sad stories still coming out of gorillas getting killed..it's nice to see new life!! Book Review: Wind Dancer

"Wind Dancer" is an amazing story of strong-willed Isabelle Renoir and her journey in finding her true meaning in life. She is raised in a British-held frontier during the American Revolution. Change is all around her, but she doesn't know what her place is in the world. She is unlike other women who cook and sew. She enjoys using her knife, riding and shooting her long rifle (which she sleeps with too!) On a journey with her brother to retrieve books for her priest at another fort, they encounter Samuel Holt. He is a rugged American spy who shows up as their guide disappears. He leads them to safety at the fort, but you can feel the sexual passion between Isabelle and Samuel building. On the return trip home, they are attacked by Indians, held prisoner and have to watch a horrific killing. Isabelle must bring in to play her spirituality to help her get through each day in the Indian camp, until the day she can be free.

This was the first book by Jamie Carie that I have read, but it won't be the last. I was pulled in by the interesting time period of the American Revolution. I love any kind of book based in the frontier, which Ms. Carie brings vividly to life at a time the land and country was changing. Strong-willed, independent Isabelle and rugged and strong Samuel are two characters created that you can actual see having been pulled from history. The story is very spiritually based, which worried me a little that it would be 'overly' so, but it didn't distract from the story at all. From the take-over of forts by the "Americans" to the Shawnee rituals at their camps to the passion and love of Isabelle and Samuel from 2 different worlds, this book will draw you in to a period of ours lives that made our country in to the amazing place we live today.

I would highly recommend you read this book, along with the Jamie Carie's other books "The Duchess and the Dragon", "Snow Angel" and the soon to be released "Love's First Light". I should have reviews for all of these at some point in the future!!

Today's question: Have you ever used the Swap This Book function which can be found on the main page of any book (here is an example of Flirting With Forty by Jane Porter: link shown on book page, what it looks like if you click on the link)? If so, what do you think about it? If not, are there any other swap sites you utilize to exchange books once you are done? What do you do with your books if you no longer want them anymore?

I didn't know about the 'Swap This Book' feature on the page of a book on Librarything! Surprise!! I went and took a look of course and am really amazed at how many book swap sites there are online. I knew about a few like BookMooch and PaperBack Swap, but have never used them. I will need to take some time and look at some of the other sites.

Back when I lived in Arizona, I took the books I didn't want or finished reading to a used book store to get store credit for other books. The only problem with doing it online is having to pay for the shipping to send books to people, which isn't bad, but is an extra cost. I have used the Early Reviewer group thread Done with it..to share books with people (and them with me!)
I share my books with my mom and sisters too, so they stay in the family too! Alot of books though stay right with me on my 3 5-shelf bookcases..and 2 3-shelfcases...is that too many?? hahaha.... I love books!
