Tuesday Thingers is hosted by Wendi of Wendi’s Book Corner. She seems to find things on Librarything that I had no clue are there!!

Today's question: Have you ever used the Swap This Book function which can be found on the main page of any book (here is an example of Flirting With Forty by Jane Porter: link shown on book page, what it looks like if you click on the link)? If so, what do you think about it? If not, are there any other swap sites you utilize to exchange books once you are done? What do you do with your books if you no longer want them anymore?

I didn't know about the 'Swap This Book' feature on the page of a book on Librarything! Surprise!! I went and took a look of course and am really amazed at how many book swap sites there are online. I knew about a few like BookMooch and PaperBack Swap, but have never used them. I will need to take some time and look at some of the other sites.

Back when I lived in Arizona, I took the books I didn't want or finished reading to a used book store to get store credit for other books. The only problem with doing it online is having to pay for the shipping to send books to people, which isn't bad, but is an extra cost. I have used the Early Reviewer group thread Done with it..to share books with people (and them with me!)
I share my books with my mom and sisters too, so they stay in the family too! Alot of books though stay right with me on my 3 5-shelf bookcases..and 2 3-shelfcases...is that too many?? hahaha.... I love books!

Today's Question:
The LT Home Page feature. How are you liking it? Or not? Do you go here when you log into LT or do you use your profile page more?

I like the new home page, but other then see it when I sign in I don't use it alot. It has some good information that I probably should look at more, but not enough time in the day!! I use it mainly to check the threads I read, which are many!!! My profile page probably gets looked at more because of the comments being there.

Most of us book bloggers like to write book reviews- if we don't love to write book reviews- but here's today's question. When it comes to LT (and your blog), do you review every book you read? Do you just review Early Reviewers or ARCs? Do you review only if you like a book, or only if you feel like you have to? How soon after reading do you post your review? Do you post them other places- other social networking sites, Amazon, etc.?


I try to review every book I read, whether ARC, ER or my own books. My problem is I get behind on the reviews!! I try to get it up within a week of reading the book, but that doesn't always happen!! If it's a book I didn't really like, I will still review it, but with a shorter review. Other then here, I post my reviews at LT, Amazon.com, BarnesANDNoble.com and I have just started to put reviews on a Goodreads account I started. I need to figure out how to get the link going in Facebook. I do use some of their applications for books too.

I just wish I had MORE available time to read...I am going to need more book shelves!!

What's the most popular book in your library?
Have you read it? What did you think? How many users have it?

The most popular one of mine is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at 37,389 with 364 reviews done on it!! Of course, the next four are other H.P. books too!!! I do like this series though I still haven't read the last one yet and amazingly I have not heard or read ANYTHING that tells me what happens in this last book!! So shhhhh!! Some of the books in the series are better than others, but overall I've enjoyed the series. It isn't quite a classic book, but it will be around for a while I think!!

Tuesday Thingers!!

Today's question: LT Things- t-shirts, bags,cue cats- are you into the "stuff"? Do you use a cuecat to enter your books, or do you enter them manually? What do you think of the stuff?

Hahaha...I actually put a cuecat on my Xmas list!! I manually put books in now, but at times it would be nice to have one. I haven't bought anything yet from the store, but I love buying 'stuff' ( I don't go overboard..just something here or there that will be useful in some way)!! I think it's important to help spread the word about a great website...and I love talking to people about it when they ask. A book bag is on my list to get soon too.

This week's question: Legacy libraries. With which legacy libraries do you share books? Tell us a little about a couple of them and what you share.

To find which books you share with Legacy Libraries: Go to Librarything.com and click on "Statistics" from either your profile or your home page; then click on "Legacy Libraries" in the second row of clickable choices.

My answer:
I had never looked at this option on Librarything...glad to learn something new!! My top match was with Ernest Hemingway where I matched 8 books (some were Jane Eyre, Gone With the Wind, and The Outlines of History by HG Wells).I matched 3 with Carl Sandburg (Wuthering Heights, Black Beauty and The Dream by HG Wells)...and my favorite...Rose Wilder Lane..2 books (Little House in the Prairie and The Happy Golden Years). I had a few more that matched 1-2....none match Tupac though!!

Tuesday Thingers!!

Today's question:

Members who have your books. Do you ever look at this feature? Do you use it to make LT friends, or compare notes? There are three tabs- weighted, raw, and recent. "Weighted," which means "weighted by book obscurity and library size" is probably the least self-explanatory of the three, whereas "raw" and "recent" are more so. Do you get any kind of use out of this feature?

I've seem the feature but never really 'looked' at it, other then clicking on a few people that had a lot of the same books as I do. I would leave a comment for them if they had read a book I really liked, but I don't think none have become LT 'friends' that I added.

I think I need to go take some time and look over all the LT features if Marie keeps asking questions about them!! I feel so dumb not knowing about many of these features, BUT it's nice to hear about them in case I DO want to use them!!! :-)

Tuesday Thingers for today from The Boston Bibliophile


Today's question is only marginally about LibraryThing but I thought it might be a fun question anyway. It's more about blogging. Everyone who participates in Tuesday Thingers has a blog- some have a book blog, some have several, some have blogs that are more personal, etc.- and we've all chosen to participate in this particular way of networking to build traffic, get to know each other, etc.

So my question is: what other weekly memes or round robins do you participate in? Is this the only one? Why Tuesday Thingers and not some other weekly Tuesday meme? Or do you do more than one?

Also, if you feel like you don't have enough memes, you can visit The Daily Meme for even more blogging options for different days of the week. I know- like you don't have enough to do! :-)


My answer:
Well, my main meme is Tuesday Thingers, but I also have participated in Wednesday Weirdness and Booking Thru Thursday. Thanks for the link for the Daily Meme, now I will have to go check it out. I have been trying to think of a day to do a meme to, but haven't decided on one yet! I think they are a great idea to keep the mind a workin!

I would just like to say thanks to all who do have one and keep the questions going!! Great job you guys!!!

Tuesday Thingers!

Today's question from The Boston Bibliophile:

Cataloging sources. What cataloging sources do you use most? Any particular reason? Any idiosyncratic choices, or foreign sources, or sources you like better than others? Are you able to find most things through LT's almost 700 sources?

I mainly catalog through Amazon.com like everyone else. I am curious why LT does have 2 amazon.com listings?? Here is my breakdown:

161 Amazon.com
79 amazon.com
26 Library of Congress
1 Manual
1 Amazon.com.uk

I do try and use ISBN numbers more, just to make sure I get the right edition. I do find it weird when you enter a distinct name and it gives you back books whose names are not even close to what your looking for as the first few choses..and you have to go down to see the one you really wanted!!

I have sooo many more books to catalog..and more keep coming!!

Tuesday Thingers

Today's Tuesday Thingers question is: Why LT?

Why did you choose to open and maintain an LT account? Do you/did you use other online cataloging/social networking sites, like GoodReads or Shelfari? Do you use more than one? Are they different or do they serve different purposes?

My sister, a media technology professor, told me to check out LT and I did and I've been there ever since! I love being able to catalog all my books, be able to find what I've already read and see other peoples' reviews for books I've read or yet to read....ALL in one place! I haven't used any other site for my books or socializing...but I love LT..and plan to use it for quite a while!!
